If you have relied heavily in the past on store-bought fertilizers and pesticides to keep your garden in check, and want to get away from them, companion plantings definitely offer an environmentally friendlier alternative. With so many companion plants to choose from, it’s easy to add them into the landscape and vegetable garden.

For those of you who are already cultivating, planting and growing with minimal chemicals, consider strategic planting of companion plants in your landscape and among your food crops to further enhance insect control, soil quality and crop yields. One of the better reference guides to review is John Jeavons’s book, How to Grow More Vegetables.
