Winter Wind-Down: Moving On
As I previously posted, the winter garden didn’t do very well this year. The weather was simply too warm. In the end, I was able to eke out a only few Romanesco and Broccoli from the garden. It was slim pickings. But, I’m done sittin’ shiva over my winter garden. It’s time to move on.
As a gardener, its easy to me to want to “control” my environment and “make” my garden do what I want it to do. But, in the end, Nature is in charge; not me. The best I can do is to try to partner with it and work within the elements of the ever-changing climate landscape. That works for life too.
Next up, March’s DWV . . .
Talk about soil gnats sometime. Until a few years ago, we didn’t know what they were. Now we lose the first planting indoors (under lights) until we remember to use mosquito dunks in the spray water. Why do we forget every year…? I don’t know, but the seed packets are getting skimpier every year AND more expensive, so we’d best get our act together.

Great!!! Maybe I’ll remember the soil gnats next year. We’ve already got to replant the tomato and pepper seeds that didn’t come up…and thanks.

I tried some red sprouts that were taller than the snow one year, so that helped. I also ate the leaves as if they were cabbage. I love my kale in the winter. I need some protection /hoops covering my cole crops. I make it until January , but I want to do better. I am still working on it\ the winter garden in my zone 5. It is a work in progress. It has been hit and miss for me,too:-) I wont’ give up! I like your attitude-partner with nature-sounds like a plan for 2016
